Bendigo Gold FountainBendigo Victoria
The Bendigo Golden Jubilee Statue depicts the Goddess Fortuna dropping gold nuggets into the pan of the miner below. The idea was suggested by L A Samuels to commemorate 50 years of the discovery of gold in Bendigo (1851) during the Victorian Golden Jubilee Exhibition. The statue was eventually completed in 1906. The inscription reminds us that between 1851 and 1941, 21,064,357 ounces of gold was found in the Bendigo Goldfields. |
