Sir John QuickBendigo Victoria
Sir John Quick arrived in Australia when aged 2 and was educated at a Church of England denominated school in Long Gully until aged 10 when family fortunes forced him into working in foundry as a fireman for an engine that drove a fitting machine. After a range of jobs including as a miner, printers boy and journalist he returned to school and eventually completed a BAchelor of Law Degree on December 1, 1877. He held the Bendigo Seat in the Legislative Assembly for twelve years until 1889.
Dr John Quick was instrumental in the Australian Pro-Federation movement and was later knighted on the same day as Federation on 1st January 1901. The Australian Constitution was written at the home of Dr John Quick and at Erie, home of Robert Garven. At this time New Zealand was almost voted in as a member of the Federation of Sattes of Australia. Sir John Quick died on 17th June 1932.
