Settling at Eaglehawk Flat he commenced puddling for gold, later building a hotel in Simpson’s Rd, which was known as the Prince Patrick. James had married seventeen-year-old Katherine Kenevan in 1863 and they had eleven children, four of whom died in infancy. James died in 1908 age 74 years and Katherine in 1918. Five of their children are also buried in this plot. Dellar Thomas –197-8A – Publican Royal Mail Hotel – Myers FlatBorn c1825 Cambridgeshire England, Thomas and his wife, Ann, opened their hotel around 1862 and ran it in conjunction with a general store. Thomas died 29th Match 1875 age 50 years. Ann, a native of Ireland, died Sunday 6th December 1891. Two sons are also buried in this plot. Thomas James and Charles Lambert. Thomas, a Storekeeper at Myers Flat, was born on the 8th of February 1860 at Keilor. He was a prominent Marong Councillor from 1882 until his death on the 1st March 1903 age 43 years. Charles was only 21 months of age when he died on Christmas Eve 1863. He was buried at Marong Cemetery but reinterred here in 1876. Babbage John Parker – 100A – Publican Moon Reef Hotel – Sailors Gully. Born 27th February 1832 in Devonshire England, John was the son of Joseph Babbage and Mary Marie Parker. John built his pub during the 1850’s and it was licensed until 1914. John served on the Eaglehawk council, and at the time of his death on the 8th of March 1901 age 69 years he was a Wine Merchant. Marrying twice, his first wife, Mary Ann, a native of Devonshire, died on the 8th April 1867 age 33 years. John wed his second spouse, Ellen Pearce, the following year at All Saints Church Bendigo. Ellen was born in Cornwall the second daughter of Captain John Pearce and Bridget Thomas; she died in 1903 and is not buried in this plot. Two of Johns daughters are, the 1st a stillbirth on the 24th August 1873 and Louisa Annie who was 12 when she died from disease of the spine on the 17th October 1876. Watson at St Peters in 1869. In 1872 Joseph married an Irish lass, Margaret Watson and two of their sons are buried in plot 201A2 – Basil Aluin Boyd Zayle who died on the 10th March 1883 age 5 months and Erwin Joseph Neil who died on the 4th August 1879 age 13 months of inflammation of the lungs. Esposito Francis James – 21H2 – Publican [No headstone – next grave Hannah] [No stone on this grave but one next door – Hogg and O’Keefe]. Sinden Frederick – 80F – Preacher William was born c 1846 the son of John & Charlotte Brown. He married Mary Warwick the daughter of William Warwick and Miss Merryweather. Their son, Lafayette Horace Brown was born in 1871 at Moor. When he died in March 1896 age 24 years Lafayette’s occupation was a timber merchant like his father. In the 1873 Eaglehawk rates Peter Manderson is listed as a Hawker with a house & land at Peg Leg Gully – NAV of £11. He died on the 18th March 1907 age 69 years, a Storekeeper, of Honeysuckle Street Eaglehawk.
