Lake Cairn Curran Vineyard was established in 1987 at ‘Park Hill’, the original homestead of the Tarrengower Run (C1840). In 1999 the Fergusons purchased the historic property to produce Estate grown wines from the mature vines. They now produce Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Sparkling wines under the Lake Cairn Curran Vineyard label. Their table wines are typically elegant with lively fruit, discrete oak influence and complexity from ageing in French & American oak barrels. Their vines are hand worked and low yielding to concentrate fruit flavour. Grapes are organically produced without artificial inputs. They use sustainable viticultural practices such as undervine mulch, sheep grazing and minimal irrigation. Thier winemakers impart their individual passions and expertise using traditional and modern techniques – such as wild yeast Chardonnay ferments, cold maceration for Pinot Noir, basket pressed Shiraz and Methode Champenoise sparkling wine. As with the vineyard name, the wine labels are inspired by the adjoining Cairn Curran Reservoir. The labels capture the seasonal variations of the lake and river – compare our 2003 labels bearing a painting of the stunning full lake to the 2005 labels with photographs by Gary Chapman of the dramatic drought landscape of the same river valley!
