Newbridge Wines is a small boutique vineyard located on the banks of the Loddon River located at Newbridge, 35 kilometres to the west of Bendigo. Specialising in high-quality Shiraz wines, the vineyard and winery were created by the remarkable Ian Simpson who toiled tirelessly over many years. When Ian died at the end of 2005, the mantle was taken over by his son Andrew, and daughter-in-law Kayleen, who operate the winery today. The beautiful block at Newbridge on the Loddon River was purchased by Ian in 1979, but after many projects, the vines were planted in 1996. Ian chose Shiraz because he believed this variety was best suited to the region’s climate and terrain. Up until 2002 the grapes were sold to several prominent local winemakers, but in 2003 the first vintage was bottled under the label Newbridge Wines. The vines are hand-pruned every winter, irrigated sparingly, and hand-picked usually in late March at about three tonnes per acre. The aim is to produce small berries with intense flavour. Matured in American and French oak barrels, the wine reflects the deep alluvial soils laid down over the millennia along this section of the Loddon River. Our logo depicts the iconic Loddon River as it winds its way between Newbridge and Bridgewater.
